THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD!

For the past sixteen years, God has blessed me with great parish assignments in my Priesthood ministry: Parochial Vicar - St. Alphonsus in Wexford and St. Paul Cathedral in Oakland, Co- Director of Vocations, Chaplain to the Catholic Committee on Scouting, Member of the Priest Council and College of Consultors for the Diocese, Board of Director member for Holy Family Institute and Pittsburgh Catholic Newspaper, Chaplain to the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Police Department and St. Anthony School Programs, Pastor of Good Shepherd in Braddock and St. James in Sewickley, and Radio Host on KQV- 1410 AM for Education Plus.

Every day I try to do my best to be a good priest to the people that I am entrusted with. I love being a Priest!

We all have a vocation in life, whether we are called to be Single, Married, Priesthood or Religious Life, we all have gifts and talents that God blesses us with each day.

This weekend we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Easter, also called “Good Shepherd Sunday.” In the First Reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we read the conclusion of Peter’s “Pentecost Sermon” and how he proclaims the Gospel to the crowds in Jerusalem. He offers them the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Apostles invite the crowds to repent and accept Baptism. In the Gospel of John we read how Jesus is the Good Shepherd to guide us and protect us. He presents himself as the shepherd and gate to the sheepfold. Both images express the commitment of the shepherd to lay down his life for the sheep. To believe in the Risen Christ is to open ourselves to his gifts and place ourselves and all that we do in the service of life.

The readings this weekend focus on listening to the Lord’s voice and following him. As Christians we are called to extend the hospitality of the Good Shepherd to members of the flock who have wandered or become disconnected from the Church. Let us invite a family member or friend who has been away from the Church to attend Mass with us, or share a meal or a cup of coffee to a “fallen away Catholic” to see what pains or hurts they hold in their heart. Let us pray for those who have fallen away or trying to find their way through life.

It gives to great pleasure to announce that the Diocese of Pittsburgh has accepted parishioner Jason Corsetti for the Permanent Deacon Formation Program. A Deacon assists the priest at the altar, reads the Gospel and can deliver a homily, conduct Baptisms and also able are able to conduct a Liturgy of the Word Ceremony for Weddings and Funerals. We will continue to pray for Jason as he prepares for this very important process. Jason and his wife Shea have two children Peyton and Addison and reside in Moon Township.
