PEACE BE WITH YOU!

Fifty days ago we celebrated Easter. For the past seven weeks we have been reading from the Acts of the Apostles how the church grew after Jesus had resurrected. With the church being decorated with beautiful flowers, the Risen Lord statue, the Easter fountain and the Easter Candle, the fifty day celebration of the Risen Lord comes to an end today as we celebrate Pentecost. The Jewish people celebrated Pentecost for centuries before it became a feast. It was a celebration of the fiftieth day of Passover.

Today we read in the Gospel how Jesus commissions his disciples to continue his mission as he gives them the Gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus gave the gift of the Holy Spirit to his Apostles to continue the mission of the church to preach, teach and heal. In the Gospel of John we read how Jesus says “Peace Be With You.” This passage, often referred to as the “Johnnine Pentecost” describes how Jesus, after his resurrection, appeared to the disciples and gave them the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Let us be open to the Holy Spirit so we too, like the Apostles can bring Christ to those who are in need. As we conclude the Easter season and return to Ordinary Time, let us celebrate the summer season being refreshed and renewed.

PEACE BE WITH YOU!

Parish Improvements Our prayer garden along Walnut Street is being completely revamped. The old trees and shrubs and mulch have been removed and in the next few weeks we will be working on installing a new drainage system and new lighting along the sidewalks. Stay tuned for more pictures of the improvement project. Plants, shrubs and benches will be installed in the later part of the summer.

Donations are still being accepted for the Prayer Path. If you would like to make a donation please contact our Business Manager, Terri Price at the rectory at 412-741-6650 extension 312 or via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Flat Roof Replacement The Diocese of Pittsburgh has granted us permission to replace the flat roof on the Gathering Space, the School Gym and connecting corridor that connects the school to the Gathering Space. Schulteis Roofing Inc. of Plum Boro has been awarded the contract. Work will begin June 26 and is expected to be completed by the end of June (pending the weather.) Funds from Our Campaign for the Church Alive will cover the cost of the entire project. Florida Consulting and the Diocesan Office of Property and Planning will be assisting us with this project. Thank you to all who participated in the Our Campaign For the Church Alive to make this much needed project possible.

Ron Parisi Contracting of Ambridge has begun renovation work in both restrooms in the Gathering Space. Please be patient while the renovations are taking place.

*** Due to the renovations of the Gathering Space restrooms, BOTH the women’s and men’s bathroom will be closed. Only the church restrooms (near the ushers’ room) will be available while these renovations are taking place. Please note that for added convenience, both restrooms in the church will be available for BOTH women and men. ***
