COME TO ME, ALL YOU WHO LABOR!

As a priest for the past sixteen years, I have had many people come to me and asked to pray for them. Even parishioners from my past assignments keep in touch and let me know when they would like a few extra prayers said for them. Life can be very burdensome. There are all kinds of burdens: worry, responsibility, disappointments, hurts, bitterness, guilt, illness, unemployment, a difficult relationship, or addiction.

This weekend we celebrate the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings focus on looking at those challenges in our life that are burdensome. Jesus wants us to bring our burdens to him and he will give us rest.

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus praises God for revealing the hidden things to simple people like his disciples. He invites all to share in his burden. Jesus wants us first to entrust and share our problems with him. He promised his disciples, and us, that when burdens weigh us down and when we feel we cannot take one more step, Jesus will carry our cross for us.

Let us keep our faith when times are tough and ask the Lord to walk the journey of life with us. Let us take the words of Christ to heart and learn to turn to him more readily when we are in need.

COME TO ME, ALL YOU WHO LABOR!

Parish Improvements We continue to make major repairs and improvements throughout the church campus this summer:

Schulteis Roofing Inc. of Plum Boro continues to replace the Flat Roof on the Gathering Space, School gym and connecting corridor that connects the school to the Gathering Space. Funds from Our Campaign for the Church Alive will cover the cost of the entire project.

Work continues on renovating both the men’s and women’s restrooms in the Gathering Space.

Improvements to our Prayer Path along Walnut Street continue. The old trees and shrubs and mulch have been removed and a new drainage system has been installed. Craig Bishak Electrical Services of Sewickley has installed new lighting along the sidewalks. New plants, shrubs and benches will be installed in the later part of the summer.

Donations continue to be accepted for the Prayer Path upgrades. Stay tuned for further details regarding this endeavor.

Vector Security continues to install and upgrade a new fire alarm system in our School building. Funds from Our Campaign for the Church Alive are helping to pay for this project.
