A Word From Fr. Tom - 07.17.16

WELCOME!

Three weeks ago after a six-hour bus trip traveling through heavy thunderstorms on the Ohio and Indiana turnpike to attend the Notre Dame Vision Youth Conference, our youth group, adult chaperones and I were joyfully greeted by the Notre Dame Vision staff immediately upon our arrival to Geddes Hall to register.

After registration, I walked from Geddes Hall to Corby Hall, which is the Holy Cross Priest and Brother’s Residence and is located next door to the Sacred Heart Basilica. When I entered Corby Hall, I was greeted by Julia Nash, the Administrative Director of Corby Hall, and Fr. Mark Theising. They welcomed me and told me to make myself at home. I stayed in the Presbytery, which is the guest house next to Corby Hall. The living quarters were comfortable for my week’s stay and it faced the beautiful Grotto. I was also made to feel welcomed through the concelebrating of daily mass with the Holy Cross Fathers.

This weekend we celebrate the Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings focus on welcoming others into our daily life. In the First Reading from Genesis, we read how Abraham and Sarah welcome three visitors into their home. In the Gospel of Luke we read how Jesus visits Martha and Mary. Martha is busy making a meal for Jesus while Mary sits at his feet listening to every word.

Each of us has gifts to offer. We are each called to bring our gifts to the Lord and let it shine Let us learn to minister well by being attentive to the needs of each person that we encounter. In the busyness of our daily lives, let us try to keep a healthy balance by opening our hearts and minds to Jesus by listening to the Word of God then acting on it by our actions with others.

WELCOME!
