REJOICE!

For the past several weeks, during the weekend Masses, various funeral liturgies and even at the recent Light Up Night Pasta Feast, I heard many positive compliments how inviting, active and welcoming our parish is and how clean and updated our campus is kept. As your Pastor, I am so proud to say that I am from St. James- Sewickley because we are an active and thriving Parish. As Bishop Zubik often says, We Are the Church Alive! What a great time to Rejoice!

Traditionally, the third Sunday of Advent is called “Gauete Sunday” which means Rejoice! We are half way to Christmas! The pink candle in our Advent wreath signifies joy and hope. Today’s readings focus on rejoicing.

In today’s first reading from Isaiah we read how a prophet is overjoyed that God has anointed him to bring good news to the people. In the second reading, from the Letter of Paul to the Thessalonians, Paul states to rejoice always, pray without ceasing. In the gospel of St. John, we continue to read about the cousin of Jesus, John the Baptist, who always points the way to Christ.

Jesus is the light of the world and Advent is a time to come out of the darkness and walk in the light of Christ. As we approach “half time” in this advent season, let us work on being more positive with ourselves and those that we interact with. Instead of complaining about something today, give a compliment. Look at the positive things in life.

REJOICE!
