A Word From Fr. Tom - 12.20.15

Christmas is almost here! This coming Friday we will celebrate the Birth of our Lord. Today we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Advent. Today’s readings teach us about faith in the Incarnation. In the First Reading from the prophet Micah, we read how David’s royal line leads to the birth of a worthy king. He will be a good shepherd for the people of Israel. Micah is offering his people hope. In the Second reading from Hebrews, we hear that Christ came into the world to do the will of the Father. In the Gospel of Luke, we read the “Visitation” when Mary, who is pregnant with Jesus, goes to visit her cousin Elizabeth. John the Baptist pays homage to Jesus leaping for joy in his mother’s womb.

As we celebrate Christmas this coming Friday, let us greet our family and friends with love and joy.

Christmas at St. James Christmas Eve Masses will be held at 4:00pm, 7:00pm and Midnight, and on Christmas Day at 9:30am.

Please note that there will be NO MORNING MASS, Confessions or Eucharistic Adoration on Saturday, December 26 or January 2.

The Rectory offices will close at Noon on Wednesday, December 23 and reopen Monday January 4. There are no activities scheduled on campus except for daily Mass and funerals. Please hold all rectory phone calls and office business until after the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. If you need assistance (for an emergency matter only) please call my office at (412)741- 6650, extension 311.

Parish Improvements Two new benches and trash canisters have been installed near the school and Gathering Space entrances. Special thanks to Ernie and Anna Villella for making this project possible in memory of their son Marco.

A new Blessed Mother Statue has been put in place on the altar of our church. Special thanks to a generous parishioner for making this project possible.

Four new “Liturgical Lights” have been put in place on the back wall of the altar. These lights will change colors pending the time of the liturgical season. Special thanks to our Director of Music, Lou Valenzi for making this project possible. Thank you to Bob and Carol Druga for installing a wooden wall to cover the liturgical lighting.

Additional Responsibility I am pleased to report that Bishop David Zubik has appointed me a Trustee for the Board of the Pittsburgh Catholic Publishing Associates, Inc. I look forward to serving on this board for our Diocesan Newspaper. I have a love of journalism. This will be a three year appointment on the Board.

Welcome We would like to welcome Lakyn Bianco, Ryan Lutton, and Margie and Charles Thein who recently registered at St. James Parish.

Year End Donations As you make decisions on your end contributions, please consider St. James Parish. An open donation helps us utilize your gift where it is most needed to run the day to day operations of our parish. If you would like, you can designate your donation to the Parish, School, or Parish Share. May God Bless you and your family this holy season.

Special Message As your pastor, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas! Thank you for your love, support and prayers.
