Home Home From the Pastor's Desk Good Bye Father Dan
Good Bye Father Dan

To the parishioners of St. James Parish and friends of the Sewickley area,

I write to you now as former pastor, the 17th to be exact! For six years I referred to you as “my parishioners,” a term that sounds a bit possessive, but to my ears is a term of endearment. I leave you with a heart so full of the love you have shared with me. My life is truly touched and changed forever.

I had the good fortune of serving with a wonderful staff who were and still are an enormous support to me. All the parish councils, organizations, ministers of the altar, countless volunteers and of course all the people made me the proudest pastor in the diocese. With the events of the last few months behind us, we both move on into God’s great and promising future. My last mass on August 15th was unlike any I have ever celebrated.

Your kindness, generosity and support overwhelmed me! I express my sincere thanks for such an outpouring of love. In the end, I am speechless, but filled with such hope for us all . With the arrival of Fr. Burke, God has blessed our community as he has for the past 150 years with the never ending promise that the best is yet to come. So much has happened over the last six years that I cannot begin to summarize the mystery and wonder of it all. It truly has been for me “The Love of Christ In The Heart of Sewickley.” I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the privilege of serving you.

Till we meet again, may God always hold you in the palm of his hand.

Love, Fr. Dan
