A Message from Fr. Dan

My Dear Parishioners,

The last several months have been very difficult for me, and I am so grateful for the kind of support, encouragement and love you have shown me during this time. During this time I have reflected much on my life and all of you whom I love very much.

Both Bishop Zubik and Bishop Waltersheid could not have been more supportive, and I am grateful for that as well. It became apparent to me this past week that I needed to make a decision about my future and the future of the parish, and asked the Bishop to accept my resignation for my good and the good of the parish. The Bishop understood the reason for my request, and kindly accepted my resignation on July 25th, the Feast of St. James. Sometimes the most loving thing you can do is to “let go.” I need time for healing and strengthening as I continue my leave of absence of six months, and our parish needs to move into a promising future as it begins its 150th Anniversary Year.

I am very excited about Fr. Tom Burke becoming your new pastor. I have known him for a long time, and without a doubt is one of the finest priests I know. You will love him! Though my time has come to an end, always remember the best is yet to come! I treasure my last six years, and will always have such fond memories of St. James Parish.  Keep me in your prayers, and never forget our motto: “The Love of Christ in the heart of Sewickley.”

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr. Daniel A. Valentine
