The Shepherd's Voice

Love God, Love Neighbor!

Our readings today call upon us to love both God and neighbor. In the First reading in Deuteronomy the reading takes place as the Israelites are camped on the shore of the Jordan River ready to enter the Promised Land. In his farewell speech, Moses stresses that they are to remain faithful in their new land and that the key to success is faithful service to God, to Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul, and strength. In the second reading from the Letter to the Hebrews we read that Jesus is our High Priest before his heavenly father. In the Gospel of Mark we read about the “Golden Rule”, Love God, and Love Neighbor. Whom have I promised to love? How have I shown my love to others?

As the Election approaches this coming Tuesday, let us pray that we may be united to our faith, our family and our friends. Let us pray for those we have disconnected with over the years, and pray that we may all be one.

Love God, Love Neighbor!

Memorial Board/Book of Remembrance The month of November is a time to remember all of our loved ones who have gone home with the Lord. Throughout the month we will display our parish memorial board listing the names of parishioners who have passed away since last October. We also have a Book of Remembrance where parishioners and visitors can write names of their loved one’s in the book and at every Mass during the month of November we will remember them in our thoughts and prayers. Feel free to write down your loved ones name in our book.

Mass Requests for 2013 Mass requests for 2013 will be accepted next Sunday, November 11, between 8:00am and 1:00pm in the Gathering Space. Volunteers will be there to assist in making your Mass requests for the upcoming calendar year. We ask that each family request only 4 dated Masses. Please consider consolidating your family intentions into one such as “for the Dvorsky and Burke Families.” We will do our best to honor your requests but we cannot guarantee the date due to sickness, retreats, priest vacations and continuing education requirements. Also please note that if a funeral does come in for a 9:00am daily Mass, the Mass intention will still be fulfilled and the name of the Mass intention will be mentioned during the prayers of the faithful. Thank you for your understanding.

Parish Improvements A new water fountain has been installed near the restrooms in the Gathering Space. It is Handicap accessible. Also, plumbing in the men’s restroom has been updated.

Are You Registered? Every Catholic needs a place to call “home.” If you attend St. James Parish on a regular basis and are not officially registered you’re most welcomed here! Please complete the form that is in the bulletin and return it to the office. It is very important to be registered especially to obtain a Sponsor Letter to be a Godparent or Confirmation Sponsor. Also, if you are registered and are planning to move and change your address, please let us know so we can update our files.

Political Action Guidelines Election Day is this Tuesday, November 6. The Diocesan Guidelines for Political Activities are available under the Faithful Citizenship on the diocesan website:

The Church may not:Endorse or oppose particular candidates for public office. Distribute or allow groups or individuals to distribute partisan campaign literature under Church auspices or on Church property. Place on Church property political advertisements or statements in bulletins, newsletters, or other publications. Arrange for groups to work for a particular candidate for public office. Invite only selected candidates to address any Church sponsored group. Allow Church equipment or property to be used for a particular candidate. Distribute a candidate survey or voter guide that evidences a bias toward certain issues or candidates. As your Pastor, I cannot tell you who to vote for. But I can remind you to please pray over the issues with your Catholic conscience and please vote.

Looking Ahead Altar Server Training Session There will be a “refresher course” for all Altar Servers on Saturday, November 10 from 11:00am to Noon.
