The Shepherd's Voice 01.04.15

This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany also referred to as “Little Christmas.” In the First Reading we read from the Prophet Isaiah. We read that that the nations make their way to Jerusalem and they bring gifts to show their devotion to the Lord. In the Second Reading to the Ephesians, Paul speaks of the mystery of salvation. God has commissioned apostles and prophets to make known this mystery. In the Gospel, we read how the Magi recognize and pay homage to Jesus the newborn king of the Jews. Matthew’s Gospel makes it clear that even from the beginning Jesus came to save all people of the world.

Epiphany is a Greek word which means showing forth or manifestation. The primary symbol of Epiphany is light. The star guided the Magi to Jesus, the Light of the World. As we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany we pray that God’s light may since in our hearts.
