SPREADING CHRIST’S LIGHT!

Recently our Eight Grade Students preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation attended a Day of Retreat at Quigley Catholic High School in Baden. I had the honor of celebrating the 4pm Mass for the participants in the school gym. There were over 400 youth and adults in attendance. The Church is Alive in the Diocese of Pittsburgh!

This weekend we celebrate the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings this weekend focus on the Light of Christ and Unity. In the first reading from Isaiah, the prophet sees a brighter future for the people of Israel who have been facing many hardships and challenges. Isaiah says “people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. “ In the second reading from Corinthians, Paul calls for unity in the community. He reminds the Corinthian community that the primary allegiance is to Jesus Christ. Today’s Gospel passage from Matthew has three parts: 1)Jesus withdraws from Galilee and begins to live in Capernaum, 2) as he walks along the Sea of Galilee Jesus calls Simon Peter, Andrew, James and John to come and follow Him, 3) the third part of the Gospel is the beginning of Jesus’s ministry.

We are invited to remember our baptismal call and spread the light of Christ around us. Let us give “light” to those around us searching for God in their life.
