Choose Life!

Last Sunday as I was making my rounds visiting the students in our Religious Education program, I stopped in the sixth grade class. They were talking about making good moral decisions in life and choosing right over wrong. We had a very good discussion on morality.

This weekend we celebrate the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings this weekend focus on making wise choices in life. The First reading from Sirach focuses on trusting in God and keeping the Commandments. In today’s Gospel of Matthew, we continue reading the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus says he has come not to abolish the law but to fulfill it. Jesus teaches a strong message today. He came to teach a new way of living, not just know the law, but to fully live the law as it was meant to be lived.

Life can be a challenge. We make wrong “turns” in life and learn from our mistakes. Let us choose wisely and try to work on some improvements with the things that we struggle with in life.

Choose Life!

Pittsburgh Catholic Article about Clergy Distribution Please take a look at last weeks and this weeks Pittsburgh Catholic newspaper. Bishop Zubik has a very well written article about clergy distribution and preparing for the future. In the next few months there will be several priests retiring and there will be several changes in the way parishes will be covered. Please take some time to inform yourself with the upcoming changes that we will be facing in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

Donut Sunday/ Farewell Reception for Fr. Matthew The Women’s Guild and the Knights of Columbus will be hosting our monthly “Donut Sunday” this weekend after the 7:30am, 9:30am and 11:30am Masses in the Gathering Space. This event is also a Farewell Reception for Fr. Matthew Tosello who will be relocating as of February 28.

This will be an opportunity for our parishioners to say farewell and say thank you for his service the past four years. The Clergy Office is assisting Fr. Matthew in his transition.

Knights of Columbus This weekend at the 9:30am Mass we welcome the Knights of Columbus. This Fraternal Men’s Organization is very active here at St. James supporting various charities including children with special needs and Catholic School Scholarships. They also conduct various parish events including Oktoberfest, Turkey Bingo, St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance, Italian Dinner Dance, and Pancake Breakfasts. This organization is open to all men of the parish. Please stop by the Gathering Space this weekend to learn more about this organization. I am proud to say that I am a 4th Degree Knight!

Parish Share 2013 Parish Share 2013 is concluding in two weeks.
