The Shepherd's Voice 04.13.14

For the past five weeks we have been walking the journey of Lent. Today, we bless the palm branches and carry them in high honor of Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Today is the only Sunday that we read two Gospel passages. Our liturgy is divided into three parts: commemoration of the Lord’s entrance into Jerusalem, Liturgy of the Word, and Liturgy of the Eucharist.

This coming week is “Holy Week” the holiest week of the year honoring our Lord as we retrace his steps through Jerusalem to Calvary. We recall His suffering and rejoice in His victory over sin and death. Today’s gospel is the Passion of the Lord. This year we read from the Gospel of Matthew, who emphasizes Jesus as the Son of God and as a model of righteous behavior.

Let us pray that this Holy Week will inspire us to become closer to the Lord.

Lenten Penance Services The last Penance Service will be conducted tomorrow Monday, April 14 at 6:30pm at St. Joseph in Coraopolis.

No Confessions will be heard until after Easter.

Living Stations This weekend we welcome the St. Ferdinand Parish Youth Ministry Program as they perform “Living Stations.” This is a wonderful passion play on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Over eighty high school students will perform. Please join us this evening at 7:30pm in the church.

Scrip Program With the Easter shopping season now in full swing, St. James Parish is here to help you. Support your parish by buying gift cards from our Scrip program. Stop by our Scrip table in the vestibule and stock up on the gift cards that you normally purchase at the store. For every purchase you make the merchants donate a percentage to our parish. Gift cards are available before and after Mass and also during the week at the Rectory office.

Parking As St. James Parish continues to grow, we know that parking is limited in our parking lot on the weekends. Please note that if our parking lot is full there are other options: parking on the side streets and also in our church owned lot on the corner of Walnut and Frederick (across the street from the Christy House next to the Laughlin Center. Please do not block the fire lanes in the parking lot or park in the middle of the driveway.
