The Shepherd's Voice 04.20.14

It has been a very long winter season with the snow, cold, and ice. After a rough winter we are now moving forward. Spring is definitely in the air!

These past Forty Days of Lent (Let’s Eliminate Negative Thinking) have been a time for us to reflect on what positive changes we would like to make in our life.

Today we rejoice at Easter as the tomb is empty. In John’s Gospel we read how Mary Magdalene arrives at the tomb. Upon seeing the stone removed, she fled to Peter and the other disciple whom Jesus loved. They ran, looked inside the tomb and realized that the tomb was empty. Darkness gives way to light. There is life after death!

Easter celebrates a new beginning. The resurrection is a mystery which we can never fully understand but only believe. In Jesus Christ death is overcome. Each of us is invited to share in the gift of the risen life. The Easter Season provides us with an opportunity to reflect on what it means to be baptized members of Christ’s body.

This weekend we renew our Baptismal promises. Let us renew our discipleship during these fifty days of Easter and make some Easter goals to become a better person overall and celebrate the new life that is around us.

Let us open up our hearts and minds and see how we can receive the joy of Christ. Christ is Risen! Alleluia!
