Traveling the Journey!

Last week thirty eight high school students from St. James Youth Group along with students from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School in Moon Township, Maria Brown our Youth Minister and I traveled to Notre Dame in South Bend Indiana for a Catholic Youth Conference. The theme for the week was “The Call to Discipleship and Conversion.” There were over three hundred and fifty youth and adults from around the country that attended. St. James was one of the largest groups. It was a very spiritual week listening to various speakers and interacting with others about our Catholic faith. Many great friendships were developed. I was truly impressed with our kids and very hopeful for our future!

Today we celebrate the Thirteen Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings focus on traveling the journey with the Lord and discipleship. In the First reading from the Book of Kings, we read how Elisha follows Elijah to become a prophet. The second reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Galatians, Paul reminds us to live by the spirit and be a follower to true freedom.

In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus continues his journey towards Jerusalem and Jesus invites his disciples to follow Him. The Samaritan townspeople are not welcoming of Jesus. Jesus continues to move on teaching his followers about the true meaning of discipleship.

As we travel this journey together let us not get discouraged. We are companions on the journey together. Let us not have fear, but have faith.

Traveling the Journey!

Parish Improvements Recently Don King Lawn Services installed a new filter in our outdoor fish pond. We recently added the gold fish that were used as center pieces at our 150th Anniversary Dinner at the Allegheny Country Club and additional fish have been added by the Malus family through the courtesy of Toni Guy.

Don King Lawn Services planted a new Dogwood Tree in front of the rectory in honor of Ruth Darragh to thank her for many hours of service in leading the 150th Anniversary Committee. The tree was presented to Ruth at the Anniversary banquet.

Dr. George Berry recently donated another St. James Sculpture in celebrating our 150th Anniversary as a parish and 100 years as a Catholic school. The new sculpture now hangs in the vestibule of the church.

CZ Sound recently inspected our new sound system and “tweaked” a few things. You will notice improvement in the sound in the back of the church near the confessional areas. The speakers were reconnected. Also an outside speaker in the bell tower was repaired.

Happy Independence Day Because of the 4th of July holiday our parish offices will close at Noon on Wednesday, July 3rd and be closed Thursday and Friday, July 4th and 5th. We will have one Mass at 9am on Thursday July 4th and the regularly scheduled Masses on Friday at 6:45 am and 9am.

Let us give thanks to the Lord for our Freedom in this country. God Bless America!
