Welcome Fr. Fred Gruber!

Bishop David Zubik has given St. James Parish a very special gift… a Parochial Vicar! This weekend we welcome Rev. Frederick W. Gruber as Parochial Vicar to St. James, and Chaplain to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School in Coraopolis. Fr. Gruber (as he would like to be called) grew up in Whitehall, attended St. Sylvester School and Baldwin High School. Fr. Gruber is a graduate of Christendom College in Virginia. During his years in college his sense of a vocation to the priesthood developed as he became involved in various activities of campus ministry and pro-life work. He entered St. Paul Seminary and earned a Master’s Degree in Philosophy from Duquesne University. For his theological studies for priesthood ordination, he studied at the North American College in Rome. He specialized in Mariology (the study of the Blessed Virgin Mary). During his summers in Pittsburgh he was assigned to St. Louise de Marillac Parish in Upper St. Clair.

On June 30, 2012, he was ordained a priest by Bishop Zubik and served for two months at St. Maurice Parish in Forest Hills before returning to Rome to complete his theology studies.

He is the son of Tom and Mimi Gruber and is number four in his large family of fifteen. He has fourteen nieces and nephews. His brother Peter is a novice in the Oratorians of St. Philip Neri for their house in Pittsburgh. He enjoys jogging, hiking, and reading.

The St. James Women’s Guild will sponsor a welcoming weekend for our new assistant. Cookies, donuts, and coffee will be served after all of the Masses this weekend. Please join us in the Gathering Space after each of the weekend Masses.

Today we celebrate the Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings focus on hospitality. Abraham hurries to put on a feast for his mysterious visitors and in the gospel we read how Martha offers hospitality to Jesus when he visits her home. Let us remember to offer hospitality to all those that we meet each and every day.

Holy Hour Novena Please join us the next six Saturday mornings at 8:15 for Eucharistic adoration and Holy Rosary, preceding the 9am Mass to pray for the miracle of healing for parishioner Tom Hajdukiewicz. Tom recently was diagnosed with an unexpected illness.
