PRICELESS!

This weekend we celebrate the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary time. We continue reading St. Matthew’s “Parable Discourse.” The readings this weekend focus on how valuable the Kingdom of God is in our life. In the First Reading from the Book of Kings, we read how King Solomon asks for wisdom. Too often people spend their whole life searching for the wrong things to make them happy. Even with his power and riches, King Solomon asks for wisdom to make him a good leader. In the second reading, St. Paul tells us that God has planned the salvation of Christians from all eternity. We are conformed to God’s image and made children of God. In the Gospel of Matthew, we read the third consecutive week of Matthew’s “Parable Discourse.” The Kingdom of God is like a Treasure buried in a field. It is like a Pearl and like a Fishnet. The Treasure and Pearl have the same message that the Kingdom of Heaven is worth investing everything we have to acquire it. The Fishnet means that the Kingdom of God contains good and evil in the world and only at final judgment will they be separated. Our chief task in life is not to be successful or even be fulfilled but to live properly. A close relationship with God is a real treasure!

New Assignment for Fr. Gruber Bishop David Zubik has appointed our Parochial Vicar, Fr. Gruber to a new assignment effective, Tuesday, September 2, 2014. Fr. Gruber will become the Parochial Vicar at Ascension Parish in Ingram, Guardian Angels Parish in the West End, and Holy Innocents Parish in Sheraden. He will also retain his responsibilities as Chaplain at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School in Moon Twp.

With the new assignment of Fr. Gruber we will now have just one priest here at St. James Parish. I will continue as your Pastor as my full time assignment and will still have my five additional “part time” responsibilities to cover. We will need to look at adjusting the daily Mass schedule. I will keep you informed as to what changes we will need to make. Please be patient as we prepare for this upcoming adjustment.
