Increase Our Faith!

Last Saturday as I was walking into the church vestibule to clean things up and prepare for a wedding, I ran into a parishioner who just lost their spouse. As we talked about the funeral and how things were going for them during this time of transition, they said that if it wasn’t for their faith, they would not have gotten through the difficulty of the funeral preparations and planning. I saw a deep sense of faith in them to keep moving forward.

This weekend we celebrate the Twenty-Seventh Sunday of Ordinary Time. The readings this weekend focus on keeping the faith. To have faith means to maintain hope in God’s promise and to keep working at the task of discipleship even when we think the task has been completed. Jesus tells his disciples that even with a little amount of faith, we can do great things.

In the first reading from the Book of Habakkuk, the prophet wonders when God will rescue the people. He is confident that God will answer his request. In the second reading from Paul’s Second Letter to Timothy, Paul encourages Timothy to be fervent in his ministry. Timothy can depend on the Holy Spirit to help him, no matter what difficulties arise. In the Gospel of St. Luke we read how the apostles ask Jesus to increase their faith. Jesus wants us to do more than the minimum.

Increase Our Faith!

Parish Share 2013 The Annual Parish Share Campaign is in full swing. A successful Parish Share collection helps our Diocese to function not only in service to St. James Parish, but all of the 200 parishes in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Our parish goal for 2013 is $175,219.00.

Parish Share is a very important campaign to help run the day to day operations at the diocese, helps with Catholic School scholarships, Campus Ministry programs, and other organizations. Please be as generous as possible.
