The Shepherd's Voice 11.02.14

As a priest I conduct a lot of funerals. It is part of the “cycle of life” that we all have to go through. Throughout the month of November we will remember all of the parishioners who have passed away within the past year.

Today is like “Memorial Day” as we celebrate the Feast of All Souls. On this day we remember the loss of a loved one. It is also an expression of our hope and confidence that our loved ones are with us in spirit. Even while we mourn, we remember the full circle of life and keep the confidence of hope in our hearts.

In the first reading from the Book of Wisdom, we read how the faithful find rest in the hands of God. The suffering in this world made them precious in the eyes of the creator. In the second reading from Paul to the Romans we are reminded that hope does not disappoint. In the Gospel this weekend we read from the Bread of Life Discourse in the Gospel of John. Jesus promises that anyone who comes to him from the Father will not be rejected. The Catholic Church sets aside November as a month of remembrance for the faithful departed.

Today, let us remember all of our loved ones who have gone home with the Lord. May they rest in peace.

Memorial Board/Book of Remembrance The month of November is a time to remember all of our loved ones who have gone home with the Lord. Throughout the month we will display our parish memorial board listing the names of parishioners who have passed away since last October. We also have a Book of Remembrance where parishioners and visitors can write names of their loved ones in the book and at every Mass during the month of November we will remember them in our thoughts and prayers. Feel free to write down your loved ones name in our book.

St. James School Blue and White Gala Mark your calendars for a wonderful evening to support St. James School on Saturday, November 15 from 6:30 to 11:00pm at the Allegheny Country Club for our Blue and White Gala. Rob Pratte from KDKA Radio will be our Master of Ceremonies. There will be live and silent auction items, raffles and a wonderful dinner.

Parish Improvements Matt Mertz Plumbing upgraded several plumbing fixtures in the school building and installed a new hot water tank.

Parish Share 2014 The Annual Parish Share Campaign is in full swing. A successful Parish Share collection helps our Diocese to function not only in service to St. James Parish, but all of the 199 parishes in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Our parish goal for 2014 is $196, 477

Parish Share is a very important campaign to help run the day to day operations at the diocese, helps with Catholic School scholarships, Campus Ministry programs, and other organizations. Please be as generous as possible.
