Almost Time for the End!

Last Saturday our parish held its annual Memorial Mass for the families that celebrated funeral liturgies this past year. A total of forty five names are on our Memorial Board this year. After the Memorial Mass I was able to talk with several of the family members. One parishioner told me that she is still grieving and every day is a process.

This weekend we celebrate the Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time. We are coming to the end of the liturgical cycle. The focus today and the next few weeks shift to the end times. In the Gospel of Luke, we read about the Sadducees questioning Jesus about life after death. The Sadducees did not believe in life after death. Death is not the final end, there is life after death. Our Christian life is based on the firm hope that one day we will be perfectly united with Jesus. These readings invite us to reflect on the reality of end of the world and God’s promise and gift of fullness of life. Let us pray for all of our loved ones who have gone home with the Lord.

Almost Time for the End!

Memorial Board/Book of Remembrance The month of November is a time to remember all of our loved ones who have gone home with the Lord. Throughout the month we will display our parish Memorial Board listing the names of forty-five names of parishioners who have passed away since October 2012. We also have a Book of Remembrance where parishioners and visitors can write names of their loved ones in the book and at every Mass during the month of November we will remember them in our thoughts and prayers. Feel free to write down your loved ones name in our book.

Star Council Award - I am pleased to announce that our local Knights of Columbus Council, the Queen of Peace Council 5367 recently was awarded the Star Council Award. The Star Council Award recognizes outstanding achievement in membership, insurance and service program activities. For Star Council Award, a council must earn the three other awards, Columbian, Father McGiveny and Founders Awards. Mr. Bob Ryan, the District Deputy, presented the Star Council Award to the Queen of Peace Council, on behalf of the Supreme Knight Carl Anderson to Grand Knight Ed Schuring. The Knights of Columbus is a men’s organization open to men of the parish ages 18 and above. If you’re interested in joining the Knights please contact Ed Schuring at 412-741-8062 or e-mail edshur1@

We will be having Living with Christ booklets in the back of the church for use during Mass. (Please return them to the basket after Mass). Please note that the November issue of “Magnificat” that we currently subscribe to is the last issue.

Parish Improvements - Mark Quinn Painting of Sewickley recently painted the front canopy entrance of the church. It looks much brighter and cleaner and our new parish lettering stands out better.
