Our Campaign For The Church Alive!

This weekend is a very special weekend at St. James as we officially “kick off” Our campaign For the Church Alive! This campaign is a comprehensive capital and endowment campaign. It provides us with the opportunity to help serve the needs of our brothers and sisters in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, as well as nourishing our Catholic community here at St. James. 60% of what is collected will go to the Diocese and 40% will stay here at St. James. Our parish target is $1,535,000. Forty percent of the total funds we raise will stay with us here in Sewickley for our own needs which amounts to $614,000. If we surpass this target, we will retain sixty percent of all funds we raise above goal. I ask that you open your heart to participate in this historic campaign as we help the Diocese of Pittsburgh and St. James Catholic Parish. The Church is Alive!

This is the final Sunday of the liturgical year as we acclaim Christ as King of the Universe. The focus of our readings is much like that of the First Sunday of Advent- the coming of Christ at the end of time. Our church year begins and ends with the conviction that Christ will come again and that he will bring judgment. Jesus is Christ the King, not talking about a kingdom in the ordinary sense, but a heavenly spiritual kingdom.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus hangs on the cross at the Crucifixion. The good thief says “Jesus, remember me in paradise.” Jesus remains true to his own character and teaching till the end. Christ who forgave the repentant thief, will forgive us too. Jesus invites us to share in his eternal glory.
