The Shepherd's Voice 12.22.13

Christmas is almost here! This coming Wednesday we will celebrate the Birth of our Lord. Most of us are making final preparations with purchasing and wrapping Christmas presents, decorating, cooking and visiting loved ones.

Today we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Advent, the church’s special time for preparation, prayer, repentance, and openness to the coming once again of God into our lives. This weekend we read in Matthew’s Gospel about the angel of the Lord appearing to Joseph. The angel tells Joseph that Mary is pregnant by the Holy Spirit and he is to take her as his wife and become the foster father of Jesus. This reading invites us to join Joseph in his risky adventure of faith.

Often in life we want to be in control of everything, but sometimes things do not go the way as we plan it. There is unemployment, cancer, a death of a loved one, a marriage fails, hopes and desires that are sometimes never fulfilled. This Christmas let us have not fear but faith! May we have the eyes of faith that Joseph had to see beyond appearances to the presence of God-with-us.

Looking Ahead Sunday, December 29 at 6:00am - PCNC Cable Channel- “The Mass” with the Rev. Thomas J. Burke, Celebrant and students from St. James School.

Please Note Because of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, the Rectory offices will be close at Noon on Monday, December 23 and remain closed through January 2 so our staff can enjoy the holidays with their loved ones. The Rectory offices will reopen Friday, January 3rd. There are no activities scheduled on campus except for daily Mass and funerals.

There will be only the 9:00am Mass on Thursday, December 26, and Friday, December 27.

If you need assistance (for an emergency matter only) please call my office at 412-741-6650, ext. 311.

Welcome A special welcome to those who are visiting us this weekend. We invite you to participate with us on a regular basis. St. James Parish is Alive! We would like to welcome Mary Audrey Connolly, Jeffrey, Gina, Nolan, Naddision Hutton, and Bob, Danielle, Drew, and Brooke Zieger who recently registered at St. James Parish.

Are You Registered? Every Catholic needs a place to call “home.” If you attend St. James on a regular basis and are not officially registered your most welcomed here! Please complete the form that is in the bulletin and return it to the office. It is very important to be registered especially to obtain a Sponsor Letter to be a Godparent or Confirmation Sponsor. Also, if you are planning to move and change your address, please let us know so we can update our files.

Year End Donations As we come to the end of another year, I want to thank those who have worshiped with us, prayed with us, and celebrated with us. As you make decisions on your end contributions, please consider St. James Parish. An open donation helps us utilize your gift where it is most needed to run the day to day operations of our parish. If you would like, you can designate your donation to the parish or school. May God Bless you and your family this holy season.

Christmas Wafers Christmas wafers “Oplatki” are available in church near the candle stands for a donation of $4.00. Simply drop the money in the candle box holder or you may also pick them up at the Rectory.

Special Message As your pastor, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas! God has blessed me with many gifts in life and one of the best gifts he has given me is being assigned as Pastor of St. James Catholic Parish. Thank you for your love, support, and prayers.
