This year, we are excited to continue utilizing A Family of Faith by Sophia Institute for our Family Program. Through A Family of Faith, parents and children grow in their life of faith together as a family. Parents and children meet on the Second Sunday of every month from 12:15 - 1:30 pm in the Gathering Space at St. James. After enjoying a meal together, there will be time for parents to meet together with other parents during the parent session while the children attend class. Between meetings, parents teach their children the Catholic Faith at home. This year, we will explore Volume 3 of A Family of Faith together, which is a study on the joyful adventure of the Christan moral life. 6th graders in the Family Program will follow a dynamic and challenging Scripture-based curriculum. In addition to growing and learning together, we will celebrate our faith together through special family day Masses, which will be followed by opportunities for food and fellowship.
Our traditional (classroom model) Faith Formation program meets on Sunday mornings from 9:30 - 10:45 am at St. James School. This year, we are pleased to continue using Word of Life by The Augustine Institute and Ignatius Press for our Kindergarten through 6th Grade curriculum. Word of Life is a state of the art, integrated approach to catechesis that young learners will enjoy through a blended learning model of textbook lessons, online learning interactions, and engaging video enhancements. Word of Life has recently published a new 6th grade curriculum on salvation history that we are excited to begin implementing this year!
This year, our 7th and 8th graders will embark upon their journey to Confirmation by way of our newly-initiated 7th and 8th Grade Confirmation Preparation Program entitled Quo Vadis, latin for "Where are you going?" Each 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month, the students will come together at the St. James campus from 5 - 7:30 p.m. for Mass, dinner, fun, fellowship, and a deep dive into their Catholic faith through use of the Chosen curriculum by Ascension Press. The evening will include dynamic video lessons as well as small and large group discussion. We are looking forward to beginning this new, two-year Confirmation Preparation program with our 7th and 8th graders!
Divine Redeemer Parish is in the process of implementing a Level I Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Atrium. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a holistic, montessori-based approach to religious education for young children. Children ages 3-6 are invited to join us in a specially prepared room which will help them to engage in a deeper relationship with Jesus, the Good Shepherd, through the use of hands-on learning materials. If you are interested in registering your preschool-aged child for this exciting new program, please click here to be placed on our mailing list. As soon as our Level I Atrium becomes available, registration for this program will be posted. If you are interested in helping us to create this sacred space for the children of our parish, please contact Julie Thimons at [email protected] to learn ways to help. We thank you in advance for your support!
Amicis (Latin for friends) is our NEW High School Youth Group! All students entering grades 9-12 are invited to have fun, create friendships, and share with like-minded peers. We will meet Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m., share a meal, hang out, and more!
This experience is unlike any you've ever had before! If you love Jesus and having fun playing sports, having campfires, going on retreats, riding roller coasters at Kennywood, playing video games and so much more you are always welcome to join! If you want more from your faith but don't want the "boring youth group" talks, this is the group for YOU! Whether you come once or all the time, know that we are excited to accept you with a smile. We can't wait to see you! So grab your cool or uncool friends and be a part of Amicis!
